John Failing and Jessica Oswald, lifestyle winners of the 2008 West Virginia Collegiate Statewide Business Plan competition, developed a weight-loss program that allows participants to reclaim their security deposit if they reach their dieting goals.  Their company, Bet on Weight Loss, includes a member-supported social-networking community and a wealth of dieting information and resources.  Failing states their next steps are to hire a technology manager, continue building a website, and start taking clients.  Check out their website at www.BetOnWeightLoss.com.

Nicholas Anthony and Andrew Higgins won the innovation category with their plan for a company that will develop low-cost laboratory equipment.  Higgins states that the competition helped Advanced Research Instrumentation (ARI), their company, meet the area’s best business people.  Anthony was excited to say that he was in touch with an investor who is looking to help fund their new business.  He is hoping the company will show significant growth in the next six months.
