Terry L. Marts, formerly the president of URS Corp.’s Washington Defense Group (an engineering business serving the federal government), and “a seasoned executive with more than thirty years experience in the strategic management of energy, defense, and power utility system projects with federal agencies and private corporations”, has been named as the West Virginia University Interim Director for Advanced Energy Initiative (“AEI”).
Dr. Marts has many other credentials to her resume, including vice president and general manager of the Electro-Mechanical Systems Business Unit of Curtiss-Wright Corp., vice president and general manager of the Electro-Mechanical Division of Washington Group International, president of Source W, and leadership positions with Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Curt M. Peterson, vice president for research and economic development and president of the WVU Research Corp., told The Dominion Post that “Dr. Marts’ vast experience and network of contacts are ideally matched to the task of moving AEI forward so that WVU plays a vital role in working to secure the energy independence of America.”
According to The Dominion Post, “Marts received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh and a doctorate in information systems and communications and a master’s degree in business administration, both from Robert Morris University.”
This campus-wide energy efficiency movement has been in the works for some time in Morgantown. WVU faculty members were asked to submit “energy inventory requests” in November 2007 and an energy planning workshop was held in December of that year. An AEI planning committee consisting of research deans and others was then born. AEI is in conjunction with WVU Research Trust, which was made possible by “Bucks for Brains” through the state of West Virginia.
