Regulatory Risk Management, LLC is one of the many companies that is working with the WVU Business Incubator. Founded in June 2005 by Elizabeth Ronk Nelson, the company provides clinical research auditing, training, and consulting services to the pharmaceutical, biologics, and medical device industries. The company typically works with sponsor companies, contract research organizations (CROs), academic medical centers, institutional review boards (IRBs), and clinical investigators.
Nelson chose to work with the WVU Business Incubator after having a positive experience with a similar system elsewhere. “I had previous experience with an incubator system in another state and had found it to be rewarding,” Nelson said; “I wanted to play an active role in developing a business in my state, and my hometown, that could help grow other West Virginia companies involved in biomedical research.” A very busy woman, often traveling for the company, she finds that the Incubator helps keep the momentum of everyday work flowing smoothly. “The Incubator staff has always provided an open-door policy that allows access to professionals who can help me with complex business issues so that I can focus on my area of expertise,” Nelson said.
After training for over two years with a former Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigator, Nelson started RRM. While she travels often throughout the country and the world, her main focus is local issues.
“Although I travel throughout the world,” Nelson said, “my primary interest is in optimizing our local resources to help develop a world-class biomedical research infrastructure.” Recently RRM has continued to expand under Nelson’s guidance, providing several private and public training sessions on the laws and guidelines that govern human subject research throughout the country. She has also been consulting on a national clinical research initiative outside the United States. By traveling, providing training sessions, and working with the WVU Business Incubator staff, Nelson continues to further the progress of Regulatory Risk Management, LLC and create a positive impact on West Virginia and on WVU.
