Matric Featured in the West Virginia Executive

In 2006, the Mid-Atlantic Technology Research and Innovation Center (MATRIC) began the development of a new continuous biodiesel process in South Charleston. They developed a new catalyst system that can convert vegetable oil, animal fats and yellow grease into highly valuable diesel fuel. Today, MATRIC has dozens of locations throughout the United States and several international locations.

MATRIC was formed in 2003 as an economic development of the then-named Business and Industrial Development Council (BIDCO) economic development authority in Charleston, WV. BIDCO leaders saw MATRIC as an opportunity to create a world-class research enterprise that used well-known advanced, degreed scientists and engineers as well as the physical facilities in the community. MATRIC is now an independent, non-profit corporation headquartered in South Charleston, WV.

MATRIC focuses on its service mission to relieve the burdens of government in areas of research and development as well as economic development. After three years MATRIC has grown to over 75 scientists, engineers and professional staff members who have completed over 70 research projects for 45 different customers, and it is still growing.
