CHARLESTON, W.VA. – Leadership West Virginia will convene at Oglebay Resort and Conference Center in Wheeling this week for the fifth of eight leadership sessions taking place throughout the state in 2009. LWV’s session #5 will be held July 16-17 at locations throughout the Wheeling area. Members of the 2009 class are receiving broad-based education on critical topics, and, at the same time, gaining opportunities to hone their leadership skills. During the Wheeling session members of the class will hear from a number of individuals from the legal profession. Starting off the session will be a presentation by Susan Brewer and David E. Dick of Steptoe & Johnson PLLC. They will provide class members with an overview of West Virginia’s legal system and Selective Human Resource Issues.

Leadership West Virginia will conclude its first day in Wheeling by attending a dinner hosted by Undo’s Family Ristorante.

On Friday, class members will participate in a mock trial with West Virginia Senior U.S. District Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr., presiding. The mock trial will involve a murder case and provide the class members with the opportunity to be lawyers, witnesses and jurors. “After several days of learning their parts, the class will be ready to see what they can do in a courtroom.” said Pam Farris, Executive Director of Leadership West Virginia.

Other activities planned during the session include a visit to West Liberty University to meet with President Robin Capehart, a graduate of the 2000 class of Leadership West Virginia, and a tour of the West Liberty Forensic Department.
