Various WVU Business Incubator staff members participated in the Run for Cover 5K run on Saturday April 28th, 2007 to benefit the local Bartlett House, but not without the struggle of sleepiness and a light drizzle of rain.
Journalism intern Brittany Milliken coordinated the Business Incubator’s involvement in the Run for Cover this year. “Community service was a great way to get everyone in the office together for an enjoyable day out of the office to benefit a great cause for the Morgantown area”, Milliken said.
“I wanted to find a way to get everyone together to be able to give back to the community. The run seemed like a perfect fit for everyone to have fun on the weekend and know they were doing it for a good cause. I think the idea of competing amongst each other helped stir up some excitement as well,” Milliken added.
Six Incubator staff members were present for the benefit run and they raised a total of $350 for the Bartlett House. The Incubator has stepped up its effort to increase its involvement in community service projects throughout the Morgantown area.
“We are happy to be able to help out any way we can. Our goal will be to simply top in our next event the amount of money we raised in this one,” said WVU Business Incubator General Manager Dusty Gwinn.
The Bartlett House addresses homeless issues by providing emergency food, shelter and medical referrals first then one-to-one case management to break the cycle of homelessness, according to the Bartlett House’s mission statement.
The Incubator hopes to continue its involvement in local service projects
and also decided to train harder next year for the Run for Cover 5K in hopes of beating their running times!
