SBDC Client Success Story

An article titled “EyeMarker Systems - Seeing into the Future” discusses the WVU Business Incubator tenants, the Small Business Development Center and EyeMarker Systems.

In the article, Eyemarker Systems has developed a device called an ocular scanning instrument (OSI).  The OSI can quickly and effectively scan the eye for primary and secondary ocular effects of exposure.  The device can scan for specific chemicals and signs of injury and trauma.

Eyemarker Systems has collaborated with military and non-military government laboratories on the project.  The company has received Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Small Business Innovation Research  (SBIR) funding along with capital from angel investors, which has enabled part of the research and development to occur at West Virginia University laboratories.

The article also states that Sharon Stratton, manager of the Small Business Development Center at WVU in Morgantown, has assisted the growing research company with the search for grants, angel investment and venture capital.  Providing advice about developing the business plan for capital infusion and the strategy for obtaining additional money, Stratton worked closely with the offices of the company.
