CHARLESTON, W.VA. – Members of the 2009 Leadership West Virginia class will convene in the Eastern Panhandle of Wet Virginia from March 26-27 for the first of eight leadership sessions that will be held throughout the state over the next several months. The 52 members of the class will receive broad-based education on critical topics and, at the same time, have training opportunities to hone their leadership skills. The topic/theme for the Eastern Panhandle session is “Energy & Manufacturing,” and Chesapeake Energy is the session host.
The 2009 will begin their two-day stay with a leadership development presentation entitled, “Honing Your Leadership Skills,” in which class members will undergo Profile Testing. This testing helps to assess a person’s unique characteristics in relation to their interaction with others. David Clayman of Clayman and Associates, PLLC, a clinical and forensic psychology firm located in Charleston, W.Va., will facilitate the exercise. Scott Hamilton of Profiles International, Inc. provided the assessments.
Other activities on Thursday will include a tour of the 167th Airlift Wing of the West Virginia Air National Guard. Following the tour, the class will have an opportunity to visit the City of Martinsburg before they travel to the Charles Town Races and Slots for dinner and a night at the races.
The Eastern Panhandle session will continue on Friday with a panel discussions of “Industry Challenges.” This panel will be moderated by Chris Robertson, Esq. of Jackson Kelly PLLC and member of the Leadership West Virginia class of 2008. Panelists will represent various manufacturing and energy sectors. The class also will hear from Harry M. Siegel, President and CEO of HMS Technologies, Inc. and recipient of the 2008 SBA’s W.Va. Small Business of the Year on “Trends in Technology Today.” The class will conclude the day with tours of local businesses — Ecolab, Essroc Italcementi Group and QUAD/Graphics.
“This year’s class is once again full of energetic individuals who want to make West Virginia a place of progress and prosperity. I am looking forward to getting to know each and everyone of them,” said Pam Farris, Executive Director of Leadership West Virginia.
Financial support, at the present time, for LWV’s Energy & Manufacturing Session will be provided by Charles Town Races and Slots, Chesapeake Energy Corporation, Clayman & Associates, PLLC, PATH — an Allegheny Energy Company, and Profiles International, Inc.
