Choosy Kids Finds Early Success in Promoting Healthy Lives

Despite being less than a year old, Choosy Kids, LLC has experienced significant success and growth as a tenant of the WVU Business Incubator.

Since joining the other companies nurtured by the WVU Business Incubator in May 2006, Choosy Kids has traveled around the United States promoting and training others to “Be Choosy, Be Healthy™.”

“It takes a lot of infrastructure to grow a business and the WVU Business Incubator has provided that for us,” said Trev Hall, a manager of Choosy Kids.

Choosy Kids, which stands for “Choose Healthy Options Often and Start Young™,” was created by coowner Linda Carson, E.d.D. who also developed the Choosy™ mascot and mantra in order to promote better, healthier decisions for young children.

Choosy Kids produces products to further the Choosy™ message, such as CDs and DVDs, and it also provides training for parents and professionals. Choosy Kids has trained Head Start staff members and public schools in order to avoid poor nutrition and inactivity for young children.

Dr. Linda Carson, who is also an Associate Professor of Physical Education and Sports Studies at West Virginia University, received the 2006 Partnering for Health and Human Services Excellence Award for the “I Am Moving, I Am Learning™” Project, which is a proactive approach for addressing childhood obesity in head start children.
This pilot project, featuring 5 project research areas including West Virginia, has allowed Choosy Kids the ability to undergo a national campaign which will begin its second phase in May 2008.

Choosy Kids has many plans to continue its early success such as a new website, audio and video technology products and also promoting Games for Health, which includes Dance Dance Revolution ™, as a healthy exercise activity.

“I think we are going to have a big year and continue to grow,” said Trev Hall.
