An article in the State Journal titled “Morgantown Ranks High in National Listings” discusses how Morgantown is one of the “Hottest Small Cities” in the Forbes 500 magazine.
The article states that Morgantown fares well in three national rankings of cities in May and June. It placed fifth in Forbes Magazine’s annual Best Small Places for Business and Careers list. Among other articles, Morgantown ranked 29th of 50 Smart Places to Live, 15th in income and growth, and 2nd for crimes per 100,000 population.
Tom Witt, director of the Bureau of Business and Economics Research at West Virginia University, attributed Morgantown’s new high profile in part to its designation in 2003 as a Metropolitan Statistical Area.
