Bruce Sparks and Oculus Development Featured in Biz Magazine

The WVU Office of Technology Transfer Director Bruce Sparks and his company Oculus Development were featured in a Biz Magazine cover story titled “Economic Development Begins with a Spark at WVU.”

The article states that Bruce Sparks, former CEO of Anker Coal Group and later president of FMW Composite Systems in Bridgeport, is currently the Office of Technology Transfer’s director.  The Office of Technology Transfer creates a big opportunity for building new companies and jobs in Morgantown.  In the past five years, patents and other intellectual property protections have incerased by more than five times in West Virginia.  The money that is gained from selling the research to these new discoveries is put back into more research in hopes to further new discoveries.

Creating new knowledge-based companies is critical for Morgantown to be able to compete in the future.  New companies are usually based on some kind of new technology and older, established companies continue to upgrade technology to do things better.

Story written in the November 2005 issue of The Biz.
